Our visit with George, Alisa and Maia

The last time we saw our friends George and Alisa, along with their sweet little 2 year old, Maia, was in Kodiak for Thanksgiving. Before that, we met oddly enough in Edinburgh, Scotland. After they moved away from Kodiak, we just keep crossing paths! We had a lovely visit and our kids were so excited to have a playmate after 2 weeks of playing just with each other.

We splurged on one meal when they were here (I spent some time looking through traveladvisor.com and came up with Le Safari, right on the Cours Saleya market), also meeting up with Alisa's cousins from Norway. As we showed up just after 6 when no one else in Nice seemed to be eating, they did let us sit down and start with some wine and a cheese pizza for the kids until their kitchen got going at 7. At that point, our appetites were getting going and we decided to order a selection of main courses: squid, mixed fish platter, rabbit, carpaccio. The food was lovely but I think the thing that made the meal was that we spread it out over 3 hours or so and just relaxed and were entertained by all the people and entertainers walking by. The highlight for me was dessert: we ordered a couple Cafe Gourmands, which is a beautiful plate usually served with espresso and three mini desserts. There was a Nutella pudding, a wonderful yogurt pudding with raspberry topping, and an excellent creme brulee with a sweet, crispy top. Yum!

Over the next couple days of their brief visit we:
-went swimming in VilleFranche
-bussed up to the hilltop paradise town (except for all of us tourists) of Eze
-took a late-night walk on the castle hill
-Went to Parc Phoenix and danced in the wonderful cool mist of the musical fountain then taught a parrot to burp.
-had ice cream daily

It was with sadness that we parted ways....
