Villefranche-Sur-Mer

In the central square adorning the town's most important sculpture- this. Eilidh calls it the famous chicken of Villefranche.

La Rue Obscure (Hidden road) is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the french riviera, between Nice and Monaco, built at the beginning of the 13th century.

We've finally found a beach that the kids can enjoy... a 10 minute bus ride away is the village of Villefranche, built on a hillside right on the edge of a deep harbor. This little city has had quite a history, being occupied by the Celts, Romans, Gauls, Franks, Holy Roman empire, eventually becoming property of the Sardinian empire before ping ponged back and forth between them and the French. Interestingly enough, when the Russians needed to locate a new port in the late 1800's their major European port became this little town of around 5,000. Now: major cruiseships, loads of million dollar yachts and wonderful pebbly, calm beaches.

  1. This is the town where I stayed when down there... my friend's cousin was living in a lovely little apartment tucked away in one of the pedestrian-only streets.... If I could have remembered the name of the place this is where I would have recommended that you stay!

Don't forget to go to Cap D'Ail.
